Halliday Wine Companion 2025

OSSA Méthode Traditionnelle 2018
93 points
A blend of 68% / 32% pinot noir/chardonnay. Pale in the glass with an energetic bead and mousse. Aromas of green apple, grapefruit and lemon tones combine with hints of riverstone, white flowers, toasting brioche, lemon curd, white chocolate and liminal suggestions of mushroom broth and nougat. Dry, focused and pure with nice tension and interplay between the pure apple and citrus fruits and the minerally acidity, finishing long with memories of spiced apples. $90, Drink – 2033

OSSA ‘Belbrook’ Grüner Veltliner 2023
93 points
Grüner veltliner from the Bellbrook vineyard on the East Coast of Tasmania; fermented in French oak then transferred to stainless steel. Pale with green flashes and aromas of white peach, nashi pear and grapefruit along with hints of wildflowers, white pepper, crème fraîche, stone, fennel and a peek of almond blossom and mountain herbs. Crystalline in its clarity and drive with impressive tension and minerality, it’s a great example of a variety showing much promise in Tasmania. $60, Drink – 2029

OSSA Chardonnay 2022
93 points
East Coast chardonnay from clones I10V1 and P58; wild ferment, 20 months in large format French oak. Pale straw with notes of nectarine, juicy white peach and grapefruit with hints of soft spice, nougat, clotted cream, almond blossom, crushed stone and a wisp of struck match complexity. Mouth-filling with pure stone fruit and citrus notes, some nice textural grapefruit pith elements, fine lacy acidity and a finish that pushes on persistently. $90, Drink to 2030

OSSA Pinot Noir 2022
95 points
Pinot noir clones 777, 114 and D5V12 from Ossa’s East Coast estate, some whole berries and whole clusters, matured 11 months in larger French oak (15% new). Bright ruby with a magenta edge. Notes of red and dark cherries, wild strawberries and raspberry coulis cut with hints of undergrowth, fine spice, mountain herbs and wildflowers. A pure flow of plush fruit in the palate entry, plentiful in spice and light gamey notes with a tight, chalky tannin framework and pulsing mineral line. Finishes long, elegant and quite sweetly fruited. $120, Drink – 2036.
